This year we will be coming together in a multi-access format for the chagim while following safety guidelines.

What are my Yom Kippur Options?

There will be opportunities for both in person gatherings and services on zoom.

Masks and safety protocols in place for all in person components – see below for details.

Kol Nidre (Erev Yom Kippur) 7pm
Gather in person at CVUUS to watch the live stream from campus of the service led by Rabbi Danielle (in chapel) and Cantor Aaron (remotely). Service will also be streamed over zoom. Join us for the moving melodies of Kol Nidre, sung by Super Senior Feb Eva Ury and Tevan Goldberg ‘18. College President Laurie Patton will be offering the sermon.

Yom Kippur Morning- Shacharit 9:30am-12pm
Gather in person at CVUUS to watch live stream from campus of the service led by Rabbi Danielle (in chapel) and Cantor Aaron (remotely). Some readings and honor elements will be live at CVUUS. Service will also be streamed over zoom.

Yizkor 12pm
Gather in person at CVUUS to watch live stream from campus of the service led by Rabbi Danielle (in chapel) and Cantor Aaron (remotely). Service will also be streamed over zoom. This year, during the Yizkor service, we will be reading the names of those loved ones who have passed away in the last few years. If you have a name you would like read, please fill out this short form.

Musaf and Eil Ez’karah 12:30pm
Gather in person at CVUUS to watch live stream or zoom from home. This section contains some of the key Yom Kippur liturgy.

Gentle Yoga for Yom Kippur Afternoon 4-5pm
Joanna Colwell, a beloved local yoga teacher, will be leading us through a gentle practice that supports both fasting and reflection as we prepare ourselves for the final prayers of this day. Joanna teaches in the Iyengar Style is experienced in teaching remotely on Zoom. Wear comfortable clothes, and clear a space where you can do some moving, lay a mat if you have one, and focus on your yoga practice. Please email Joanna at joanna@ottercreekyoga.com to receive the Zoom link for this session.

Minchah – Afternoon Service, and Ne’ilah – Concluding Services 5:30pm
Gather in person at CVUUS to watch live stream or zoom from home. The closing of the gates. This is our last opportunity on Yom Kippur to turn toward a new approach for the new year. 

Shofar Blowing and Havdalah 7:30pm
Gather in person at CVUUS to watch live stream or zoom from home. Hearing the sound of the shofar for the last time of the season, and re-entering regular time through the havdalah ceremony. Bring your shofar to CVUUS for an opportunity to blow it outside at the end of services.

CVUUS is located at 2 Duane Court by the High School parking lot and Mary Johnson Children’s Center.

High Holiday Nature Walk

On the Trail Around Middlebury, parallel to the Golf Course

This nature pilgrimage will lead you through a series of reflections and experiences related to Rosh Hashanah. Twelve signs are posted along the TAM section of the woods that runs from near the College Track, up along the golf course and toward Route 30. As you walk at your own pace, each sign will invite you to pause and reflect on a different aspect of the holiday. This pilgrimage will be up through Yom Kippur. Special thanks to Living Tree Alliance for creating it. This section of campus is open to the public at this time, so all are welcome!

COVID SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR CVUUS

IN PERSON COMPONENTS

-Masks required (CDC guidelines for very young children and those with medical exemptions)

-Chairs will be group in pods/family groups/individually to maintain proper distancing

-Ventilation/fans/windows open

-Sanitizing/Hand washing

-No food will be served at these services

Parking will be available at CVUUS for those with accessibility needs. All others please park in the back end of the High School lot and allow time for the brief walk over.

Parking signs will be displayed.

Sign up to borrow a Machzor for Yom Kippur

Please fill in this form if you would like to borrow a machzor for the Holy Days. We are arranging pick up windows and can arrange limited local delivery for those who are homebound/unable to pick up. 

If you prefer to have a digital copy of the High Holiday prayer book, you can purchase one here.

Machzorim will also be available at CVUUS for in person components and do not require pick up ahead of time.

High Holy Day Food Drive for HOPE

Now through September 17th 

Please contribute to our annual High Holy Day Food Drive for H.O.P.E. through Yom Kippur. 

Bags will be available during Machzor pick up at Havurah House, at CVUUS and/or you can also provide your own bag. Please be sure to label it “Havurah” so we can track the total amount of food donated during the food drive. Bags should be brought directly to H.O.P.E.

Bags should be packed with non perishable boxed and canned items. Even if you don’t fill a full bag every little bit helps support food insecure families right here in Addison County. Especially this year with Covid’s impact, the needs are even greater!

HOPE is located at 282 Boardman Street in Middlebury.
