Sarit Katzew serves as Director of Education (runs our Hebrew School program) and Program & Outreach Coordinator here at Havurah.
Sarit Katzew joined Havurah’s leadership team in June 2015 with an extensive and diverse Jewish background. She has previously served as a youth group adviser, led teen trips to Israel and worked for many years at a large Reform congregation, Community Synagogue of Rye, in New York. She has tutored b’nei mitvah students, and taught at all levels, including adult education.
Sarit also holds a high holy day pulpit at a small congregation in Binghamton, N.Y., and has served as their soloist for the past 7 years. Her bachelor’s degree is from Binghamton University where she majored in Creative Writing with a minor in Holocaust Poetry.
Sarit is currently enrolled in the Executive Masters Program in Jewish Education at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. She also teaches a Service Leaders Fellowship for Hillel students at Middlebury College and summer Art camps for kids through the Middlebury Art Studio.
Sarit also brings an extensive background in event planning, catering and food service and runs her own catering company, Savory & Sweet by Sarit, which she founded while living just outside New York City.
She and her husband, Gareth Turo, live in East Middlebury with their four-year-old son.
